The Ngwazi is recalled as having commented that Chichewa must not be taught at Kamuzu Academy - not least because no living person spoke it well enough to teach it.

The relationship between the Ngwazi and Chichewa is complex. (To follow on this.) However, it is hoped that he would be pleased to learn that one of the closest students of the modern and ancient language is the current Head of the Classics Department (2012 - 2020).
